NATURAL AGADIR AMMONITES
Every continent has ammonite fossils. And are available in every naturally occurring color. They are a useful tool for indexing and dating rocks due to their fast evolution and extensive distribution. If an ammonite is discovered in clay, the ammonite's mother-
Ammonites began life as small creatures, less than 1 mm in diameter, and were prey to predators. They ate plankton and swiftly developed a tough protective shell. They also expanded swiftly, with females becoming up to 400% larger than males due to the bigger shell needed for egg production. Most ammonites survived for only two years. Some lived for a very long time, growing to enormous proportions.
All goniatites had an exterior shell that was separated inside into chambers filled with gas, providing the animal buoyancy during its life. The goniatitid animal lived in an open chamber at the front of the shell, having access to open water via a ventral siphuncle. Goniatites' overall morphology and habits were likely comparable to those of its later relatives the Ammonites, with free swimming and a head with two well-
ANNETOCERAS
Anetoceras ammonites are distinguished by narrow and widely spaced ribs on their gyroconic shells. The shells' whorls are gyroconic, which means they do not contact. During the careful processing, two trilobite cephalons (heads) were also discovered.
Ammonites are mollusks that are no longer alive. Consider a squid that has a chambered shell. While they look like nautiluses, they are more closely linked to octopuses. They lived in the final and largest chamber of their shells, which they stuck their eyes and tentacles through. Ammonites survived four mass extinctions between 400 million and 65 million years ago.
We provide a large selection of real ammonite fossils for sale in both natural and polished forms.
